Here’s everything else you’ve got to look forward to in August…

Premieres

Joker – 7th August on Sky Cinema and Sky Cinema Pass on NOW TV The aforementioned 80s-set blockbuster is first up. Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a timid man who tries and fails to start a comedy career. Spiralling into madness, he becomes DC’s most notable villain in the process. Inspired by the Weinstein scandal, Julia Garner leads this character piece, which explores how abuses in the workplace continue unchecked. The Kill Team – 13th August A soldier (Alexander Skarsgård) has to decide if he’s going to be the kind of man who just stands by and watches while other members of his team commit war crimes in Afghanistan. Based on the documentary of the same name. Jumanji: The Next Level – 14th August The central cast return for another round of Jumanji-based hi-jinx, along with new additions Danny DeVito, Donald Glover, and Awkwafina. What fresh adventures lie in store? Joan and Tom (Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville) reassess their long marriage after Joan is diagnosed with breast cancer. Tissues at the ready. Zombieland: Double Tap – 21st August The long-in-gestation sequel finally made it to cinemas mere months before the actual apocalypse arrived – great timing. Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone all returned to star in more zombie-bashing wise-crackery. The Informer – 22nd August Rosamund Pike, Ana De Armas and Joel Kinnaman form a stellar cast in a quick thriller about a criminal who gets a second chance under the FBI’s watchful eye by infiltrating the Polish mob. Things quickly fall apart, naturally. Critically acclaimed psychological thriller Swallow sees Haley Bennett picking up a dangerous habit of swallowing weird objects like hair, dirt, and safety pins. It’s a lot better than it sounds. Abominable – 28th August A teen and her pals depart Shanghai in an effort to reunite a magical yeti with his family in this animated Dreamworks movie. Ready Or Not – 29th August Badass bride Samara Weaving takes no prisoners when her new hubby’s family reveal themselves to be in league with a dark supernatural force that keeps them rich and comfortable …in exchange for the odd marital sacrifice. Super fun. Rapman’s YouTube series goes feature length as two mates from different London boroughs end up on rival sides of a gang war.
